Where the Willows Weep & Orchids Dream, 2025

Tom Thomson Gallery, Owen Sound.

October 11th - January 10th, 2026

Where the Willows Weep and Orchids Dream (2025), is a biomorphic, immersive installation that unveils itself as an eternal, indoor swamp; a marshland interlaced with weeping willows and a blossoming meadow of showy lady slipper orchids, inspired by the escarpments of Ontario, specifically GreyBruce and Dufferin County. Emerging from the periphery of the swamp, grows a2-Dimesnsional organism breathing amongst the vegetation while simultaneously going through a metamorphosis; changing in colour and form as it becomes even more mutated and distorted. The exhibition features a synchronicity of organic and synthetic materials, meshing together analogue and digital medias like; collage, animation, projection and sound to create a myriad of eccentric, moving images as well as utilizing organic and tactile materials to mimic natural environments, in an unnatural and whimsical way, presenting itself as one largescale collage.

Mediums in this exhibition include; projected animated collages, tree branches, synthetic yarns, preserved swamp plants and flowers, vintage magazines, notebooks and sketches, wire, hand-crafted paper flowers and sound. Beyond its visual appearance, Nam alludes to a reimagined abstract marshland scene, using naturalistic sounds and color schemes to achieve this. Where the Willows Weep and Orchids Dream, poses viewers towards a harmonic segue of expansive ways to imagine nature and technology used in artistic practices.
